About David Gehring
David is the Managing Director, Digital Media/Internet & Mobile for SmithGeiger, a media research firm based in Los Angeles. Through his role with SmithGeiger, David works with clients to develop research solutions that will provide insight and direction to their most critical marketing questions.
Previously, David was the Founding CEO of Famplosion, a digital media company focused on the family audience. Famplosion aggregates and organizes local family event information so parents can easily find great things to do around town with the kids. David conceived, developed and launched the site covering an initial 7 major markets across the US. Within the first year of launch David expanded Famplosion’s local coverage to include over 11 major markets and hundreds of cities and towns nationwide leveraging a unique content aggregation model for localized content. Along the way, David developed relationships with major media companies including Hearst, Disney, Gannett, Anshutz Company as well as dozens of local digital and traditional media companies. David believes the future of mass media will be forged out of localized content and locally focused companies.
David’s earlier experience includes several executive roles in sales and business development at mobile software startups including MobileSys (now mBlox), Aeroprise, Antenna Software and QuickPlay Media.
With his background in mobile enterprise and consumer applications, he is an active “hobbyist” in developing consumer mobile applications and business models.
David lives in Palo Alto, California with his wife and two active kids.
