One of the hardest things about leaving San Francisco, was leaving our church in the city. We have been involved with City Church in San Francisco for about 8 years now. For the last six years, my wife and I had lead and hosted a small group in our home on Wednesday nights. The group would be a mid week opportunity to reflect on the sermon our pastor gave that previous Sunday, as well as a time to pray together and just check in with one another on a personal level. It was pretty awesome. And we were very sad to leave that group behind.
Here in PA, we’ve checked out a couple churches and are familiar with several more. But it looks like we’re settling in on the one that’s just down the street. It’s a church called Peninsula Bible Church, and it’s been there for 60 years! The demographic is pretty different than what we became used to with City Church in San Francisco, but regardless of demographic, the church seems to be composed of people who love Jesus and love each other.
Last week, the preacher got stuck in San Diego, so the staff had to scramble for a Plan B come sermon time. They went with a pass the microphone sharing thing, and I have to say, if I wasn’t sold on committing to this church before, I am now. Christians talk about the transformative power of Jesus Christ all the time, but you don’t get to really see it until Christians are willing to share their most intimate struggles and how they are relying on a relationship with Jesus to get them through.
Sunday we heard story after story of how these people are relying on Jesus and how reliable Jesus is proving to be.
